Spoof Text


One day, an English teacher talked about colors to his students. After he had been explaining, he asked his students, “Who can make a sentence using the word, Green, Pink and Yellow?”
James, the smartest student in the class quickly raised his hand and answered, “When the yellow morning Sun comes, I see a beautiful girl wearing a pink clothe walking through the green grass”
“Excellent. James, you are a very good student” the teacher said.

“Me, me Sir”. Johny, the lazy student in the class said while raising his hand. And then he said, “I heard telephone ringing green, green, then I pink up the receiver and I said, “Yellow, who is speaking there?

Penguin in a Park
Text Box: OrientationOnce a man was walking in a park when he across a penguin. He took it to a policeman and said; "What should I do?" The policeman replied; "Take it to the zoo!".

The policeman was rather surprised and walked up to the man and asked; "Why are you still carrying the penguin? Didn't you take it to the zoo?" The man replied; "I certainly did. And it was a great idea because the penguin really enjoyed it.
 So, today I am taking it to the movie".




Definition and Social Function of Spoof
1.       Spoof is a text which tells factual story, happened in the past time with unpredictable and funny ending.
2.       Social function is to entertain and share the story which the ending is funny.
Analyzing the Text
1.       Generic Structure Analysis
Orientation : introducing participants: a Men, Policeman  and Penguin.  
                          A man was walking in a park and come across a penguin.
Event 1 : The man find a penguin and took it the policeman
Event 2 : The man took the penguin to the zoo.
Event 3 : The following day, the man were still carrying the penguin
Twist :  Even, finally the man would take the penguin to the movies

2.       Language Feature Analysis

1.       Focusing on  certain participants : a man, penguin, policeman
2.       Using Past Continuous :
a man was walking in a park
3.       Using simple past tense : was, took, saw
the policeman saw the man in the same
4.       Using action verb : took, saw, carry, walk up
5.       Using adverb of time and place; once, in the park
6.       Told in chronological order:   by days, the next day
